Get off that rickety rollercoaster!
I'm Colleen, a licensed massage therapist and solo practitioner of Trumilu Therapeutic Massage.
I know the potential for medical massage therapists because I've watched my husband, Rob Truax, DO, practice Osteopathic Manipulation for 20 years and much of what he does focuses on soft tissue.
Rob went to Kirksville Osteopathic Medical School where he discovered what makes DOs unique . . . Osteopathic Manipulation. He was so fascinated by the potential that he became an Osteopathic Manipulation Fellow so he could focus on this oft-neglected skill in typical clinical practice.
He became a Family Practice Physician, then specialized in Sports Medicine.
He now has a Sports Rehabilitation Clinic and teaches Osteopathic Manipulation at Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Rob has twenty years of hands-on experience, first in the Army and now in Cleveland, Ohio.
I've seen him make a significant difference in people's lives and because of that, I became a licensed massage therapist in Ohio.
Being a community-minded person, and yet very busy as all entrepreneurs are, I started engaging with other massage therapists online, expecting a helpful and harmonious community.
Not.always.the.case.
It was more like a jolty, shoddy rollercoaster ride that had me rethinking my choice to board.
I suspected the caustic community was due to a shaky and shifty educational foundation resulting in some therapists preferring mockery and fear-mongering when they could be equipping.
Equipping takes time, though, and time isn't free.
As often happens, seeing the confusion and condescension helped me appreciate what I had.
I had a discerning resource in my husband because he helped me quickly develop effective massage skills as well as cut through a lot of nonsense massage therapists are taught.
When I don't know some medical condition or jargon, he can tell me.
When someone claims something works, he can help me understand the medical reasons it could or could not be true.
And even when I've had a hard day, he gets it without having to know all the details.
Entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster. The constant movement is part of the excitement, but it needn't be a ride that you want off at the first opportunity.
Rob and I created Mentor Connect to make the learning curves of building a medical massage practice less like a rollercoaster-whiplashing . . . and more like an awe-inspiring ride full of steep but slow ascents, smooth and intentional descents, perspective-shifting twists and turns, while cascading over beautiful scenery and experiences.
This is our desire for your career as a massage therapist. You have the beautiful job of learning about the human body. It should fascinate you. Not terrify you.
Mentor Connect gives you access to the same treasure trove of insight that has made my massage career an invaluable expansion of my life because
Dr. Truax, Rob, my husband, has taught me so much, he teaches his medical students so much, he teaches his patients so much, and he'll teach you so much.
Get off that dodgy rollercoaster. It needn't be like that.
